The fact that a lamp uses a lot of energy in no way means that it also radiates a lot of light. Most of the energy is still converted into heat. This also applies to LEDs. A highly efficient 1-watt diode can provide more light than a poor-quality 5-watt diode.

Still heating up - or already shining a light? Lights bulbs transform electric power into electromagnetic radiation. Only a part of this radiation manifests itself as visible light. Most of the energy is released in form of long-wave heat radiation (infrared radiation) that doesn't generate light but only heat. Unfortunately, the same goes for low-cost production LEDs contaminated by unwanted foreign molecules.
